Low Code Hack #1

A good low-coder is a cheap low-coder. Cheap means fast. It means you get to revenue and outcomes faster. It means you don't spend time and money on complexity. No matter how easy Google and Microsoft make getting started, it's still complex.

This is the start of my new Wednesday Low Code Hack series. I select and highlight one of two things: solutions that get results fast or new tech coming up the horizon, which will be fed into the Low Code Hopper and evaluation.

Recently, I purchased some domains. I had to use Outlook via the GoDaddy.com add-on service to get email working. If you have read anything I have written, you know I have enduring dev-hate for Microsoft Products.

(Don’t get me started.)

I needed an email. My cheap dev brain kicked in, and I found a perfect solution. I have no idea how I did not think of this years ago. Asking the right question at the right time is the true challenge for a founder.

Good questions yield surprising solutions.

The Question: How do I get email without paying for it?

This is a free service for a single domain. You add one DNS record to your GoDaddy Domain. It is simple: any username (or alias) you use for your domain will be routed to your inbox.

Warning: However, ImprovMX will charge when you want a more complex setup!

But for a startup founder, a low-coder, this is perfect. There is no Google Workspace Setup, and there is no monthly charge. Your Gmail Inbox is now the inbox for your newly purchased domain.

Done.

So now [email protected] has got to my Gmail inbox.

The setup is so simple it’s hard to believe. Sometimes, the best solution is the least technical approach possible.

When to Pay

So, to send emails from your inbox, you must shell out green stuff. It makes sense; it is free to receive and pay to send. I expect to have every new domain I purchase set up on this service until I need something more comprehensive.

Happy Wednesday!
