Ai Coding Tools

Exploration of how much I can get AI to replace my "Code Brain" approach to building solutions.

Since I am in “No Code February,” I am working my way through every AI tool I can find on the market. I started with Bolt.new in the first week, and with a little work, I was able to get a project built and committed to a Github repo.

I moved on to Loveable.dev last week and got some nice results.

This week, I stopped and rested and took the time to build a list of additional tools to try out. I think it's a toss-up between DataButton and v0.dev.

Here is my master list. The options tagged with ‘Builder’ are my priority. The IDEs and IDE extensions will be last up.

Bolt.new - This was my first and is still one of my go-to AI coding tools. The integration with Supabase provides new users with a smooth upgrade to add in login, logout etc, and SQL storage. I recommend non-tech users start with ‘localStorage’, but it’s no a huge leap to add the features your first app will need to allow you to share the goodness with other users.

Loveable.dev - This AI Builder takes a very different UI, but works much like Bolt. A lot of users have used Loveable to build out their static websites. It is amazing how hast a user can mockup from a small set of prompts and get to a production-ready version.

Replit - I love this AI tool when I want a strong Supabase integration. Bolt will do the same, but I find the integration is better. I use this app when I know I want an internal team app that does not need (yet) a public login or registration option. The integrations are great and do not require much experience to get started.

Command Line AI Tools

Warp.dev - This tool is special. It’s focused on the command line. For developers, this is closer to the cursor experience. I love this tool because the command line approach allows me to set the context for a prompt, which is very helpful when I don’t want to burn tokens and I want to use a specific folder or group of files for a change by the AI.
